"A little twister, on and off Public assistance, suffers from asthma and bronchitis, a very casual labourer. Married, has 4 or 5 children. Nurse says the children are not dull. Wife's brother lives with them. They only have one room but it is very big. Dirty, inharmonious. All in one room, dirty. Children filthy. Unsteady work record - on benefit just now."

'This man is a thief, is unhealthy physcially and mentally, has had several fines but not I think any imprisonment. He works as a labourer but is often out of work. Was dismissed from a factory for theft. Wife, big healthy woman, has two illegitimate children and a delicate one to her husband. Several other died of asthma. Housing: Condemned house, one room, very small for 5. Filthy. Inharmonious.'

"Diagnosis: Constitutional Neuropath. Father interviewed. Is deaf and was discharged from the army for dermatitis. Said he is nervous type. Gave impression of being over-protective to patient. Dr says patient does not wish to work down the pit as he is afraid something is going to happen to him. He is a real bad boy according to his school report. A "dour, nasty boy and a cunning, sleeky liar". Mother dead."

Said also to have deserted from army, deserted wife, has been several times in prison. Not alcoholic. Dr confirms that this man is a poor creature."
